Karl von Terzaghi

His name is Karl von Terzaghi.He was born 2 de octubre de 1883 en Praga.Engineer recognized as the father of soil mechanics and geotechnical engineering.Since the beginning of his career devoted all his efforts to find a rational method to solve the problems related to ground engineering and foundations.
In 1918 Erdbaumechanik produced his monumental work, considered today as the starting point of soil mechanics.
In 1938 he went to Harvard University where he developed and presented his course on geology applied to engineering, retiring as a teacher in 1953 at the age of 70. Became U.S. citizen in 1943.

He wrote a book called Soil Mechanics in Engineering Practice.

Terzaghi was the first to address numerical data on soil behavior, exemplified in his famous formula on the ground bearing capacity.
